Weekly Weigh-In 12/07/08

In my most recent post (below), I reported that when I weighed in on Wednesday (12/3), I was up 4.2 pounds. My goal for today’s weigh-in was to have shaved off as much of that as I could so that I could get back to work on getting my 25 lb. keychain and then hitting my 10% weightloss number with them.

Guess what—I “lost” 4.2 pounds today! Yep, that’s right, I was right back at 271, which is exactly what I weighed the Sunday before Thanksgiving. So, that 4.2 “gain” probably wasn’t much more than fluid retention (due to eating a much higher-sodium diet than what I eat at home) and a pound or two gained from the aforementioned indulgences. Basically, I maintained for two weeks. Whew! Now I’m right back on track with trying to hit that 10% loss before I leave for Arkansas for Christmas.

Today’s meeting focused on the rollout of WW’s “new” program—really most of what they’ve done is just re-name things (like the Core plan is now the “Filling Foods” plan or something like that). The foods are all still the same for me, so it’s really not that much of a transition; but we will be getting all-new materials for the next six or eight weeks, so that’ll really help me get re-grounded in the program and stay there through the rest of the holiday season.

I’ll start back with the food journaling tomorrow. I’ve gone back and reviewed the food journals I posted the week I had a 2.4 pound loss and am going to build my week’s menu from there (that was November 10–16). I’m also going to (try to) make myself exercise this week. It’s going to be too cold to walk outside, but I’m either going to get out the walking DVDs again or (finally) go to the new community center and workout there.

Goals for the Week:
–Lose 1–2 lbs at next weigh-in
–Stick to the Core foods and try not to use too many of the 35 extra points available
–Watch portion sizes
–Eat more fruits and vegetables (this has really been an area of difficulty for me recently)
–Exercise at least 3–4 days, 30+ minutes per day

Now I’d like to hear from you. What are you planning to do over the next couple of weeks to prepare yourself for the Christmas gorge-fest so that you don’t put on two, three, five, or more pounds and regret it when New Year’s rolls around?

  1. Kaye,
I’m so happy for your weight loss!! You asked what we plan to do to stay focused? FOr me, I have to exercise. I’m training to run a marathon by my 40th, so running really helps to keep me focused. Who want to pound the treadmill for an hour and then replenish the calories in one meal or a few cookies? I also write down what I eat. That ALWAYS keeps me focused and aware of where I am.
Thanks for sharing this blog, Kaye.

I’m very proud of you! I weigh in on Wednesday and hopefully will have lost the 1.7 pounds that I put on at Thanksgiving. I’m working out every morning, switching it up too with some yoga (super hard) and aerobics. Keep going you and I will both be fabulous by next year at our 20 year!

@Tracy–Great job on getting ready for the marathon. That’s something I have absolutely no desire to do! But I do think I did better when I was walking on the treadmill or elliptical trainer daily that showed how many calories all that work and sweat was burning. It definitely made me consider what I was eating much more carefully afterward!

@Lyra–Ugh–don’t remind me that it’s been 20 years! (and for me it has been—I finished in December and started at NMSU in January ’89) Not sure if I’m going to make it to L.C. for the reunion—have two family weddings this summer and possibly a friend’s to attend, in addition to traveling to conferences and/or book signings. But . . . hmmm . . . maybe I could set up a series of book signings across Arkansas, Texas, and New Mexico and write off the trip . . . Yep. Better get my hind-end to the gym this week!

Congratulations! When I read your post yesterday I was really hoping your next weigh-in would show that the 4.2 lb gain was most or all (yay!) fluid retention.

  5. Gina says:

Well, I wanted to be fit by 40, but since my 40th was last month…

I was doing well with my weight loss until we decided to sell and move and then everything but exercise went out the window. Sparkpeople.com has really helped me stay accountable to what I eat and tracking my food and calories has been easy, when I do it! Now that we’re finally settled into our home I have no more excuse not to get with the program again, and you’re a great inspiration!

    You go girl!
