31-Day Clean House Challenge: Day 1 — Declutter

I don’t know about you, but I have a really bad habit of being lazy about housekeeping. And that means a cluttered, dusty house. And a cluttered, not-always-clean kitchen. And as the clutter builds, so do my stress levels—and, thus, so does my depression. And when that happens, the last thing I’m thinking about is healthy eating or preparing low-carb dishes.

So for the months of July and August, I’m embarking on a Clean House Challenge. I’ve adapted my list from Clean Mama’s 2016 “Come Clean Challenge”—hopefully in a way that will make it so I can stick to it. So, who’s up for the challenge?

Clean House Challenge — Day 1: DECLUTTER
Today is Day 1 of the Clean House Challenge. That means it’s time to start decluttering. Grab a trash can and two boxes, bins, or bags and start with the worst catch-all space in your home (mine is on/around the dining table).

A year ago, when I moved into this house, I could sit and eat at this table!

Set a timer for fifteen minutes and start decluttering by placing everything in one of the three receptacles: Trash It, Keep It, Donate It. Set a goal of doing this two to four times today—either on the same space if it’s really bad, or choose a different space each time.

Ready? Go! And be sure to post before-and-after photos!

    Oh my gosh! I so needed this right now! I am in! Don’t know if I will post photos but I am getting up to declutter a space right now!

      Yay! Glad you’re in. I’m also working on updating my weekly housekeeping task worksheets (that I created for my planner) with these tasks in addition to the stuff I need to be doing everyday anyway. I’ll probably upload those sheets later today or tomorrow. It’s daunting, given that I have to do it all alone, but I chose to live in a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house by myself (and with a dog), so I need to choose to get it clean and then keep it clean!

      I think since my “to keep” bin is already full, I’m going to grab a couple more boxes and spend Session 2 sorting those items into bins for the part of the house where they need to go (e.g., garage, master bedroom, office, etc.).
